KCTS9 Development Grant: Call for Submissions

KCTS9 is a public television station in Seattle, Washington, USA and is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).

As part of a new programming strategy, KCTS9 wishes to develop productions of appeal both to its Pacific North West audience and to audiences in countries in the Asia/Pacific region. To this end, KCTS9 will offer a number of development grants at major international industry events in a quest to identify exciting proposals from filmmakers for two new series. The first series will be of limited duration (four programs) and the second series is planned as a longer running anthology of films.

KCTS9 is seeking proposals to compete for a grant of US $10,000 to enable the winning filmmaker to develop the project and prepare a trailer.

The first of these grants will be offered to delegates attending the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, China (GZDOC). Another grant of US $10,000 will be offered to the winner of a pitching competition at the Victoria Film Festival (VFF), and a further grant of US $10,000 will be offered at the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC).

KCTS9 is seeking innovative ideas for highly visual films that are not dependent on presenters, interviews or “talking heads”. Each film must be suitable for narration in several languages and have broad audience appeal. KCTS9 encourages strong storytelling: the films should be active and driven by events rather than relying on passive observation.

The two series are Four Cities, Four Visions and Man and Animal
