Congratulations to Theo McMahon — recipient of the 2026 Indigenous Documentary Placement, co-presented by AIDC and @abcaustralia! 🎉
Theo is a proud Bundjalung man, independent filmmaker and producer whose work includes `The Art of Incarceration` (Netflix 2022), `Faceless` and `No Prior Opportunity` (both MIFF 2025). His projects weave together First Nations storytelling, sound, and mixed media in powerful and distinctive ways.
Starting this June, Theo will spend four months embedded with the ABC in Sydney - working alongside the Documentary & Specialist and Indigenous teams to deepen his craft and build new industry pathways. Travel support will be provided by Victorian screen agency @wearevicscreen 🎬
"As an Indigenous filmmaker, I`m looking forward to deepening my understanding of how meaningful stories are developed and shared through a platform with such reach and responsibility." - Theo McMahon
(Theo’s work will also feature in this year’s Sovereign Shorts program, presented by MIFF, VicScreen and NITV, with his short film Slow Hours premiering 19 Aug at MIFF).
