2024 Doc.Lab.Interact Project Selections Announced
Four Projects to Participate in Interactive Storytelling Program
We’re excited to announce the four fascinating projects selected to participate in AIDC 2024’s Doc.Lab.Interact interactive nonfiction storytelling lab, presented by VicScreen.
Hosted by leading Australian interactive artists Ben Joseph Andrews and Emma Roberts, Doc.Lab.Interact is a practical workshop designed to teach nonfiction creators how to take their documentary project and turn it into an interactive or immersive work wrapped in an appealing pitch package.
The two-hour rapid prototyping workshop takes place during AIDC’s Innovation Day on Sunday 3 March, 2024. Teams will then undertake 1:1 pitch training with Andrews and Roberts to develop their nonfiction project into a ready-to-pitch interactive or immersive concept.
It’s all part of AIDC’s Innovation Day, a selection of sessions with a commitment to developing the future of nonfiction screen and digital media.
THE PROJECTS
Imagined Touch
When two Deafblind women Heather Lawson and Michelle Stevens approached director Jodee Mundy, a coda, to make a show, they pulled off the impossible. They turned their small community performance into Imagined Touch, a theatre production that became a sell-out success at the Sydney Festival, going on to win at the Victorian Green Room Awards. Presented by Jodee Mundy Collaborations.
Australia | Directors: Jodee Mundy OAM, Sofya Gollan; Producer: Jodee Mundy OAM
And Onwards…
And Onwards… is being made by a multi-award-winning filmmaker who has recently experienced a severe brain injury. Combining neuroscience, ecotherapy and art therapy, his healing is now well underway. With his family’s help and the help of colleagues, Randall Wood is documenting his extraordinary journey towards recovery and the stories of people around the world who share this path.
Australia | Producer: Randall Wood
Splitsville
So your partner is a coercive manipulative narcissist and now you’re alone with no money, no power and few options. Splitsville draws us into the world of financial abuse and emotional manipulation, the systemic barriers to independence after divorce and parenthood, and the impact of choices made. Viewers take branching paths to discover no-win situations, glimmers of hope and opportunity, and the strength and resilience of women fighting for their children and their livelihoods
Australia | Producer: Cathy Rodda
Maggie's Music
Maggie’s Music offers a profound insight into living with dissociative identity disorder (DID), showcasing the diverse musical expressions of Maggie’s 60-plus alters. The documentary delves into the healing power of music, exploring themes of resilience, identity, and the transformative role that creativity can play for others with DID. Beyond Maggie’s personal journey, the film aims to inspire audiences, debunk myths about DID, and foster a positive outlook on diagnosis and treatment.
Australia | Director: Julia Lewis; Producer: Christiaan Willems
We look forward to seeing how these projects take shape and incorporate interactive elements to deliver a transformational experience for existing and new audiences.
