Laurence started working in television in 2001 when she co-founded Lonely Planet Television, for which she as executive produced dozens of TV shows, most of them international co-productions such as Lonely Planet Six Degrees (Discovery).
Laurence recently pivoted to directing the films she makes. Her first film, the award-winning Freeman, premiered on ABC TV and became the most watched documentary of 2020 on Australian television. Her subsequent feature film, The Giants, (co-directed with Rachael Antony), tells the extraordinary life of Bob Brown intertwined with the story of Australian giant trees. The unexpected box-office success of 2023, The Giants, was nominated at the 2024 AACTA Awards for Best Documentary, and won Best Cinematography in a Documentary.
Laurence is also the recipient of the Betty Roland Award for Scriptwriting, and the Best Direction Award in a Documentary from the Australian Directors Guild.
