THE MYTH OF MONSTERS AND RESTLESS FAREWELL SELECTED FOR MARKETPLACE ATTENDANCE SUPPORT

AIDC SELECTS MYTH OF MONSTERS AT DOCS BY THE SEA

Held in Bali, Indonesia from 9 – 12 September, Docs By The Sea 2024 held four labs and a pitching forum featuring 34 Asian documentary projects from 21 countries.

AIDC CEO / Creative Director Natasha Gadd participated as a decision maker in the forum and awarded the AIDC Docs By The Sea Award to Malaysian project The Myth of Monsters, pitched by director / producer Beatrice Leong.

The award supports a complimentary AIDC All Access Pass, a fee waiver for project submission fees to The FACTory and up to four hours of mentoring and training.

“AIDC is thrilled to award the AIDC prize to The Myth of Monsters, directed and produced by Beatrice Leong,” said Natasha.

The Myth of Monsters is an unflinching documentary in development charting the filmmaker’s personal experiences of a late autism diagnosis. Beatrice’s intimate and observational style sees her turn the lens on herself and the subsequent quest she has embarked on to dispel myths, overturn discrimination and champion the voices of those often silenced to drive critical change.”

AIDC SELECTS RESTLESS FAREWELL AT CCDF

Held in Taipei, Taiwan from 26-29 September, the 15th CNEX Chinese Documentary Forum (CCDF) saw 20 projects take part in the forum pitch.

AIDC Industry Manager Lauren Valmadre attended the forum and presented the AIDC CCDF Award to project Restless Farewell (China), pitched by YANG Nan and HE Pei-yun.

The award includes two complimentary All Access Passes to AIDC 2025 and a fee waiver to The Factory.

“AIDC is honored to award the filmmaking team from Restless Farewell the AIDC prize at this year’s CCDF. A compelling pitch capturing the experiences of young migrant workers in China that also encapsulates a global sentiment of youth today,” said Lauren.

“The team also displayed a strong cinematic eye in their early footage, firmly establishing themselves as new talents to watch and we are thrilled to support them in their next steps.”
