AIDC 2019 begins on Sunday 3 March, kicking off four jam-packed days of professional development sessions, discussion, networking and business meetings.
Themed around The Bigger Picture, the program has been developed for the benefit of all documentary, factual and non-fiction practitioners working across media as diverse as theatrical, television, streaming, interactive and podcasting.
This year the conference will welcome over 700 attendees – the most since 2003 – including many first-time, early-career, Indigenous and culturally diverse delegates as a result of AIDC’s unique Leading Lights Fund and Indigenous Creators Program.
This year, 47% of delegates are attending for the first time, 33% are early career, 58% are female, 7% are Indigenous, and 11% are international.
The number and diversity of delegates reflects a broader surge of interest in multi-platform factual storytelling and a renewed urgency in documenting the truth of our changing world.
While traditional funding support becomes harder to come by, new opportunities expand and more practitioners are attracted to the fold by the myriad storytelling options available.
As a focal point for practitioners and the industry, AIDC presents the best opportunity to come together and discuss the current state and future of the industry, to find solutions to problems, and to begin collaborations and relationships that last beyond the conference.
Having unlocked over a quarter of a million dollars in commissions and professional development funding, AIDC 2019 is also the place to celebrate the successes of AIDC’s marketplace, pitching and industry development initiatives.
