ACMI & AIDC present the Australian premiere screening of real-life political thriller, War Game
Jesse Moss & Tony Gerber document the tense preparations for the possibility of another January 6
ACMI and AIDC have partnered to bring nonfiction-loving audiences in Melbourne a year-round series of special screenings and talks featuring new and unseen feature documentaries.
Coming up at 2pm, Sunday 27 October is the Australian premiere of War Game, a strikingly current, real-life political thriller, screening just in time for the closely-watched 2024 US election.
Co-directed by Jesse Moss (The Mission, Boys State) and Tony Gerber, War Game imagines a nationwide insurrection in which members of the US military defect to support the losing Presidential candidate, while the winning candidate and his advisors – played by an all-star roster of senior officials from the last five administrations – war game the crisis in the White House situation room.
They have six hours to save democracy as the country teeters on the brink of civil war.
After two films that document teenagers role-playing political process in 2020’s Sundance and Emmy-winning Boys State and 2024’s Emmy-winning Girls State, co-director Jesse Moss has teamed up with Emmy and PGA award-winning writer, producer, and director Tony Gerber to document a far more chilling exercise.
Government officials from both sides of politics meet to roleplay a situation that is not only possible but in many minds likely. The resulting experience is a chamber documentary-cum-thriller with stakes so high they’re horrific.
Don’t miss the chance to see this grippingly relevant documentary, just days before real-world events possibly converge to test the scenario it depicts.
Tickets are available now for the 2pm, Sunday 27 October Australian Premiere screening, thanks to Submarine Entertainment. Visit the ACMI website for more information.
