Co-Creation and Impact with the Team from The Territory

Talk Join Director Alex Pritz and Impact Producer José Kaeté to learn how a dynamic team of indigenous and international creatives took a local story to global audiences

In 2022, award-winning feature documentary The Territory changed the game of impact filmmaking. An investigative and immersive filmic experience, the film provided an on-the-ground account of the tireless fight of the Indigenous Uru-eu-wau-wau people against encroaching deforestation brought by farmers and illegal settlers in the Brazilian Amazon. Cut adrift by the Brazilian political system, The Territory follows the Ure-eu-wau-wau as they mount a new resistance movement – armed with the tools of filmmaking – to continue their ongoing guardianship of the Amazon. The film received many international prizes including a Peabody Award and the Sundance Special Jury Award for Documentary Craft and the Audience Award in the World Cinema – Documentary Competition. But more importantly, it implemented and upheld a new ethical filmmaker framework of authentic collaboration and created tangible, global impact and legislative change.

Join Director Alex Pritz and Impact Producer José Kaeté to learn how this dynamic team of both local indigenous and international key creatives came together to take a local story to global audiences, navigated the complex world of co-creation across cultures, and ultimately created one of the most powerful films of the year.
