Eva Orner - Agent For Change

Spotlight Academy Award®-winning Australian filmmaker Eva Orner discusses pushing boundaries and how to survive (and thrive) on a global stage in an ever-evolving industry.

Throughout her career, Eva Orner has boldly captured some of the most urgent issues of our time and held those in power to account.

From exposing tortuous interrogation techniques by the US military in Afghanistan in Taxi to the Darkside, to the first-seen footage of Australia’s horrific offshore detention centres in Chasing Asylum, to sexual abuse and cult-like manipulation in Bikram, and most recently, the Australian government’s lack of action on climate change and the Black Summer Bushfires in Burning. She has fearlessly investigated and interrogated both social and environmental justice, sending a ripple effect of activism and impact into the world.

In this session lead by ACMI Director & CEO Katrina Sedgwick OAM, Eva will discuss her process for tackling urgent topics and turning a lens on corruption, how to break through internationally, working with the major players, and finding creative opportunities outside of traditional systems to tell the stories that need to be told.
