Crafting audio documentaries is a unique skill that requires layers of story, interviews, archive material and music to build unique auditory worlds that take the listener on a journey into the heart of a narrative.

Soundwaves – Anatomy of an Audio Scene, unpacks how award-winning audio storytellers such as Patrick Abboud (The Greatest Menace: Inside the Gay Prison Experiment) – winner of The Walkley Foundation’s Media Diversity Australia Award 2022; Laura Nagy (Pillow Talk) – Gold winner in the Audio Entertainment category at 2022 Rose d’Or Awards; and Bethany Atkinson-Quinton (Tender) – winner of 2022 Our Watch Award administered by the Walkley Foundation, harness the unique powers of audio documentary, in play-by-play breakdowns of scenes from their work.

This session will unpack the complexity of ensuring intimacy, the safety of subjects, world-building and first-person storytelling through the scope of sound.
