With recent hit titles including Boys State (Apple TV+), The Mission (Nat Geo), Mayor Pete (Amazon Prime Video), The Overnighters (Netflix) and the 2024 Sundance smash Girls State (Apple TV+), Moss and McBaine have always told compelling human stories with intimacy and integrity. So how do you successfully turn independent artistic documentaries into major international hits? In this spotlight session that will span their body of work, we will discuss Moss and McBaine’s creative process including their artistic approach, playing with form and how they adapt their filming method to honour each unique story. The creative duo will also join us online to share their experiences navigating the documentary distribution landscape as independent filmmakers working with major platforms, streamers and broadcasters.
