Since 2018, Chouwa has produced a series of short documentaries, including Intimate Strangers (2019), I Love You Too (2019), A Distant World (2018), and My AI Lover (2022). Her works predominantly explore contemporary intimate relationships in China from a female perspective. Her recent production My AI Lover has been showcased and awarded at various film festivals both domestically and internationally, and have been featured on platforms like The New York Times Opdocs,and Aeon in the US.

Chouwa is currently preparing her feature-length documentary, Replica, which has received awards at the China Fresh Pitch Conference, Taiwan CCDF Conference, the Global Pitch, AIDC, and the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Conference in China. In addition to her filmmaking, she is also an active curator and has been an invited curator for the Mother’s Film Festival in 2022 and 2023. Chouwa also co-founded the ‘Moms, Make Films’ workshop, aiming to empower Chinese mothers to voice their stories.
