Wanling Chen is a programmer and translator.

She was a Programme Executive for CNEX Chinese Doc Forum (CCDF) in 2012 and 2013. She joined TIDF’s programming team in 2013 where she oversaw the TIDF Competition. She is now a Programmer for TIDF and the Head of Documentary for Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute. In the past ten years, she has been invited as a guest speaker, juror, mentor, programme advisor, etc. for various events, workshops and festivals at home and abroad. Wanling holds an MA in Film and Screen Studies from Goldsmiths, University of London. She is currently based in Taipei, Taiwan. 


Company Bio

Founded in 1998, Taiwan International Documentary Festival is organised biennially by the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute in Taipei. The festival includes competitive programmes that accept submissions from around the world. The next edition will take place in May 2026. Films completed between December 2023 and December 2025 are welcome. 

TIDF’s non-competitive programmes are curated by the festival team. Each edition of TIDF screens approximately 130 films from worldwide, along with various events like masterclasses, panel discussions, live performances, and exhibitions. The team also organise various workshops, providing a platform for documentary filmmakers to engage in exchanges and foster connection within the community. Through Taiwan Docs, the team promotes Taiwanese documentaries to worldwide audiences and seeks opportunities for international screenings.

Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute is the only administrative institution in Taiwan that specialises in the collection of audiovisual assets, with the mission of preserving, restoring, researching, and promoting these assets and making them available to the public. TFAI is a member of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF). TFAI houses about 20,000 film titles and 400,000 items in more than 10 vaults and is committed to rescuing and preserving audio-visual assets through digital restoration technology, in hopes of safeguarding Taiwanese collective memory and history.
